  • Information Gathering & Analysis: Analyze the other party’s potential interests, strengths, and weaknesses to uncover negotiation leverage points

  • Strategy Development: Formulate a customized negotiation strategy based on the client’s goals, available resources, and anticipated challenges from the other side.

  • Tactical Planning: Break down the negotiation into clear phases, outlining how and when to present key points, offers, and counteroffers.

  • Communication & Framing: Coach the client on how to effectively frame arguments, handle objections, and maintain control of the narrative.

  • Rehearsal & Simulation: Conduct mock negotiations to pressure-test the strategy, refining responses and tactics.

  • Support During Negotiation: Provide real-time advice or direct participation, adjusting strategies based on unfolding developments.

  • Post-Negotiation Review: After the negotiation, evaluate the results against the original goals and identify lessons for future negotiations.

What is Negotiations?

Negotiations involve a process where two or more parties seek to resolve differences and reach an agreement that benefits all sides. In values-based negotiations, the focus goes beyond surface-level interests to deeply examine the core values guiding each negotiator, such as fairness, integrity, or long-term relationship building. This approach emphasizes understanding what truly matters to each party, helping to craft agreements that are not only beneficial but also resonate with shared principles. Values-based negotiation is about playing the long game—building trust, fostering collaboration, and creating sustainable solutions that honor the long-term vision and core beliefs of all parties involved. Through this lens, negotiations become an opportunity to strengthen relationships and align on values, rather than just securing short-term gains.

Guidelines for Negotiation Coaching

The negotiation coaching process is voluntary, and participants must willingly agree to work with a coach to improve their negotiation skills and strategies.

Coaching sessions are confidential, and all discussions are protected, except in cases of illegal activity, threats of violence, or as required by law.

The coach's role is to support and guide the participant, offering tools, feedback, and techniques for negotiation preparation and execution. The coach does not negotiate on behalf of the client or impose solutions.

Role of the Negotiation Coach

  • The negotiation coach is an expert who works with individuals or teams to enhance their negotiation skills, focusing on mindset, strategy development, communication techniques, and confidence-building.

  • The coach helps the client analyze their negotiation objectives, identify interests and values, and create a structured plan for the negotiation.

  • The coach provides feedback on the client's approach, simulates potential negotiation scenarios, and assists with reframing challenges.

  • The coach maintains an impartial and non-directive stance, allowing the client to lead the process and develop their negotiation style.

Confidentiality and Ethics

  • All information shared during coaching is confidential and will not be disclosed without the client’s consent, except in situations that involve threats of violence, crime, or legal obligations.

  • Coaches adhere to ethical standards in accordance with professional guidelines for ADR and coaching.

  • The coach provides feedback and guidance but refrains from making decisions or acting as a substitute for the client in negotiations.

Coaching Agreement & Fees

  • Before starting the coaching process, the client and coach will sign a Coaching Agreement outlining the roles, responsibilities, fees, and confidentiality terms.

  • Fees for coaching services are typically based on an hourly or session rate, as outlined in The CoRe Group's fee schedule, with additional costs such as travel or resources to be borne by the client unless otherwise agreed.

Termination of Coaching

  • Either the coach or the client may terminate the coaching relationship at any time if they feel that progress is not being made or if the client wishes to discontinue the process.

  • Termination does not absolve the client from any financial obligations for sessions already conducted.
